I found Dr. Schiliro as well as Andrea and Jennifer to be a welcome experience after my hand surgery. My hand healed much quicker then I expected. The office was a pleasure and pleasant place to "visit" each week and I would highly recommend if need be.

Absolutely a wonderful experience going here coming out of hand surgery-Dr Schiliro as well as Andrea and Jennifer were such a pleasure to “visit” each week

I highly recommend this office for hand therapy. Susan and Andrea are amazing therapists and Jennifer is a wonderful office admin. I had surgery for my radial head fracture and I was able to regain my range of motion. This office will treat you like family, they don't rush treatments and everyone is professional and courteous. Thank you all for your service!

Dr Susan Schiliro is just wonderful at what she does and I can tell she loves it with a passion. Her bedside manner or rather chair side manner is just great. She runs a very professional office with a great staff to support her. But most important part was that I entered with pain and discomfort and left with no pain and lots of knowledge on what to do for strength and wellness. I highly recommend Dr. schiliro's practice and give it ten stars if I could.

Susan was patient, professional and totally knowledgeable about all aspects of hand manipulation and getting my finger back to normal after fracture

It is evident that Dr. Schiliro loves what she does. She gives 100% to her patients. With her special brand of caring and compassion and a depth of knowledge that comes from years of experience, she get great results for her patients. Dr. Schiliro treated me on 4 different occasions, most recently after Carpal Tunnel surgery and I'm so pleased with how I have progressed. She works individually with her patients, developing a tailored program relevant to the injury. The atmosphere in her office is always pleasant. If you need hand or upper extremity therapy, this is the therapist to see.

  • *****

I have seen Dr. Schiliro for about 15 rehab sessions to treat a mallet finger. She helped me achieve maximum possible medical improvement and was at all times extremely helpful and courteous. I am convinced her care and the exercises she prescribed were instrumental in my recovery. I wholeheartedly recommend her.

When you walk through the doors of Dr. Schiliro's office you will be greeted by the 3 loveliest ladies....and very competent professionals...you could ever hope for!

Jennifer, the receptionist, is terrific! Andrea and Dr. Schiliro are so good at what they do....and they make you feel so welcome and cared for! This is an exceptional place to come when you are in pain and need help. I recommend them highly and feel that you couldn't get a better level of service anywhere else!

Dr. Schiliro and her staff are very knowledgeable, professional, and caring. I went there after a right thumb surgery uncertain if would be able to use that thumb again but with Dr. Schiliro's treatment plan, I immediately started to notice improvement. After 4 months of therapy, my thumb regained its full function and I went back to work. I am very grateful for all the care I received during my treatment. If you are looking for a place that will offer effective treatment and make you feel at home, I highly recommend Dr. Schiliro.

Congratulations - you've just found the best hand therapist in Queens, if not the metro area!

My issue was post-surgery for Dupuytrens Contracture, an area of expertise for Dr. Susan Schiliro. Along with Andrea and Jen, this office is courteous, professional and relaxed, but they know their business. I was instantly comfortable here - all their "medicine" is dispensed with humor and grace. The doctor employed many types of therapy, including massage, stretching, compression objects, splinting, ultrasound and laser, to break down scar tissue and regain full function. This doctor has an excellent touch and knows exactly how far to extend your therapy each session.

My hand is now returned very close to normal, due in great measure to the care I received here. I'm extremely grateful for the healing touch of Dr. Schiliro, and highly recommend this office.

I just finished 6 weeks of Physical Therapy with Dr Susan Schiliro after breaking my wrist in late May. I would absolutely recommend Dr Schiliro for anyone with a shoulder, wrist or hand problem! While she is highly professional and well experienced, she is also warm and caring and every question is taken seriously and answered thoroughly. She and her therapist Andrea are “hands on” and deal with each patient one-to-one – there are no group sessions. Both are very encouraging - every small accomplishment is praised! But with all the kindness, they are also firm and stick to the given exercises – and they really do help!! And Jennifer, the receptionist, always welcomes you to each appointment, setting the tone of caring and friendliness that fills the office. I am very happy that I was lead to Dr Schiliro through a friend and that she was also on my doctor’s list of recommended therapists!! While I’m glad I “graduated” from therapy, I will miss Susan & Andrea & Jennifer!

I had a stroke 3.5 years ago and slowly my fingers started to curl. I had seen another hand therapist 2.5 years ago, who was totally useless. Out of desperation my family doctor directed me to a hand surgeon. He said that the very best certified hand therapist was Susan Schiliro. He certainly did not exaggerate. I have found Susan: comforting, and assuring as she explained each procedure. I never had to wait more then 10 minutes which is important for me. I'm a firm believer that all starts in one's mind. I now feel assured that within time with Susan's direction, I will regain most of the function of my left hand. If you're reading this review, feel fortunate that you were directed to the right doctor.

The surgeon who operated on both of my hands (carpal tunnel, trigger finger / tendinitis) recommended Schiliro's practice; they are located in a convenient neighborhood, and my left hand was painful and swollen and not improving as fast as my right hand. So I reluctantly went, assuming it may not help much. Fortunately, I was very wrong and Susan and Andrea helped me a great deal. They are both very clear and personable, as well as firm but kind. They readily explain exercises and processes they expect me to perform and do so without impatience or condescension. There is equipment I could purchase at cost, and they advised that I go to a particular pharmacy up the block who carried over the counter products they used in the office at good prices. (I think I am buying out the pharmacy's supply of cocoa butter two pots at a time ...!)

The facility is well-equipped, clean, and very organized. Jenn, the receptionist, takes care of billing and appointments, calling to let me know if there was a cancellation or rescheduling, etc.; she researches and knows the insurance requirements and billed me appropriately and answered other questions regarding my healthcare benefits as applied to this office. Jenn also assists with preparing patients and equipment, so that the time spent there was as efficient as possible -- every session started with washing, warming up, and relaxing the hands, usually in a paraffin bath.

While waiting for our hands to warm, patients would chat, and I got direct feedback on how much this therapy group helped others -- from serious elbow and shoulder injuries, nerve damage, sports injuries, occupational hazards, etc. Everyone seemed very happy with the progress they were making, and this was very encouraging.

At every appointment, Susan and Andrea checked in with me on what the surgeon's expectations were, followed up on pain issues -- previous and new -- with explanations and recommendations. Their mood was always light but serious -- they never got off track or allowed me to get around what they thought best for my situation. I respect them for that! In addition to improving the flexibility, pain management, and scar suppleness of my problematic hand, they openly shared benchmarks so I knew what I could expect as time went on. They were also not afraid to use non-invasive and slightly controversial methods (cold laser, ultrasound) to help alleviate pain and stiffness -- what could it hurt? As it was, I do believe these were helpful.

Six weeks after I met them, my right hand is basically at 100% back to where it was before surgery and the left hand is at 80+% and I'm optimistic that if I continue the exercises and recommendations they gave me, in time that hand will be back to "normal," too.

I am grateful for their help and their excellent attitude and knowledge, and highly recommend their services. Many thanks to Susan, Andrea, and Jenn! (And thanks for the school fundraiser chocolate ...!)

I am an impatient person and at some point after surgery, I figured the pain issues had improved so much that I would not need therapy. But the surgeon told me to try out therapy, and Susan and Andrea not only helped with physical therapy, but also in shifting my mental focus regarding what I would accept from the surgeon and myself -- a revision in what I considered acceptable.

The surgeon who operated on both of my hands (carpal tunnel, trigger finger / tendinitis) recommended Schiliro's practice; they are located in a convenient neighborhood, and my left hand was painful and swollen and not improving as fast as my right hand. I was treated by Dr. Susan Collura and her staff for therapy after "trigger" finger surgery. I want to report that the entire staff, from the receptionist to Susan herself, were very professional, knowledgeable, accommodating and personable. After two months of treatment, my post-surgery pain has been almost completely alleviated. They provided guidance and tools to continue my treatment at home. I highly recommend them!

I started my p/t treatments w/Dr. Schiliro the beginning of July for a pulled tendon in my shoulder. I found her office very friendly, professional and a place where you are not rushed! I left after 3 months having great range of motion and a positive outlook. Therapy is not always pleasant, but their sense of humor, listening skills and truthful assessment helped me regain my active life. I would highly recommend her practice. Glorian V

The best hand therapist ever!!. Great staff! Special exercises, paraffin treatments, and massage for scars and reduction of swelling post-surgically were used. These therapies helped me achieve full function of my right hand! Beautiful and immaculate office as well. Highly recommend. 5 stars!

After my surgery to remove a ganglion cyst from my wrist, I was nervous because this was my first time going to a physical therapist, but once I began my therapy at Dr. Susan Collura Schiliro's Hand and Wrist Physical Therapy Facility, I became very impressed with her service. Below is my review:

Dr. Schiliro was recommended by my wrist surgeon's referring physical therapist who said that Schiliro works with clients on an individualized basis. This meant that Dr. Schiliro would not use a "cattle call" approach to scheduling her patients. And, while every person may have things they find important when going to any medical practitioner, "approachability" is very important. I immediately felt warmly and genuinely welcomed by Dr. Schiliro's staff and the doctor herself, from the moment I stepped through the door on my first visit until the day I completed my therapy.

As I'm certain is the case with most of physical therapy patients who are trying to get their routines back to normal after surgery, my schedule was busy. At times, this created tension from my wanting the healing to be done "like yesterday," but the doctor and her team, made it their business to make my visits relaxed, friendly, and actually pleasurable.

During my therapy, Dr. Schiliro and her assistant talked to me (NOT at me, above me, around me or down to me). She listened to my post-surgery concerns from the earlier stages of my wrist's healing through to my final visit. She answered my questions without the dismissive tone that I have experienced with some medical practitioners over the years. Dr. Schiliro actively promoted a dialogue between the two of us that made me feel more relaxed about going to my sessions and also helped me exercise and progress more efficiently. (I'm a firm believer that communication is very important in this or any therapeutic process because no matter how skilled and intuitive a therapist is, she or he is not a mind-reader and can only get part of the picture of how you are feeling inside as you go through the healing process--you must supply the part they can't see with your introspective input to help them help you.) Dr. Schiliro used straight talk and even tactful humor, occasionally adding levity to the sessions while always remaining professional and informative. She demystified what was happening within my wrist by helping me visualize what was going on beneath the surface regarding the unseen scar tissue and more. She helped me realize that I had a specific window of time to regain my former flexibility and strength, and ultimately get back to normal. This made me feel more empowered and in control--it helped me play a more active role in the pace of my healing.

I would choose Dr. Schiliro's Hand and Wrist Therapy Facility for any therapeutic services I might need in the future and I would definitely recommend her services to my loved ones.

I was getting treatment at this office several times and always had positive experience. Dr. Susan Schiliro and Andrea were very professional, kind and friendly. I started feeling better right after the first session. The office is small, but very neat and has different equipment. It's easy to reach them on the phone, and they keep the appointment time. I was never waiting. I strongly recommend this office.

Dr. Susan Collura Schiliro is an amazing hand therapist, she is the best at her field of profession. I was terrified when I got into an accident at the job. Both tendons, a nerve and part of the bone on my right hand were fractured pretty bad. She made me feel comfortable, relaxed and her staff members as well send out nothing but good vibes. I love going to Theraphy because of Dr. Susan and if anyone ever gets into an accident and needs physical or hand Theraphy she's the professional to go to. I love Doctor Susan for being my guardian angel as well as her staff members.

Went there with a broken wrist on one hand and broken thumb at the other. Dr. Schiliro's understanding of my plight and "work arounds" for therapy helped speed the healing process. Thanks to the Dr & staff.

In February I broke my arm and became a patient of significant orthopedist Dr.Kenneth Kamler. After six weeks my hand was doing better and the cast was removed. My Doctor recommended Dr.Susan Schiliro as a very experienced specialist for further hand therapy. The Whole process with Dr.Schiliro was real pleasure. Her attention to every detail during healing time was amazing. Her help how to handle my daily exercises was great. Thank You Doctor again, Thank You very much ! Respectfully, Gediminas Sprindys

You will get individualized attention. It's a great place with all the latest equipment for what ails your hand, elbow, shoulder. I went for all of these! It's a calm atmosphere. They made sure I got better. Susan has her doctorate in PT and her staff is very professional also. They don't work on 3 people at once like some other places I've been to.

Dr. Schiliro was recommended to me by the surgeon who performed my carpal tunnel and trigger finger releases. Under her guidance, I recovered full function and flexibility. Every visit was made pleasant by the professional staff, comfortable office and convenient location. I intend to return after carpal tunnel surgery on my left hand!

My grandmother had broken her wrist and I had to take her here. They treated her with kindness, yet were firm about what they wanted.
When my grandma would say she was in pain, the Physical Therapists(PT) would show genuine concern yet push through with the session. They do not waste your time. Amazing PTs that will help you progress.
P.S.- listen to the PTs. If they tell you to do something, you do it. Do not skip out on one day just because it hurts. If my grandmother can do it, you can too! :)

Dr. Susan Schiliro took the best care of up. She along with her staff made me feel welcomed and cared for. The facilities are clean and well cared for. The atmosphere is positive and Dr. Schiliro always addressed any questions or concerns I had. She was able to accommodate my need for later office hours (5:30/6:00), and although I was the last patient out, she always made the most of my visit! I am very grateful for the care and services I received.

Being a potter, when I broke my right wrist last year and lost all movement in my hand as a result, I was terrified and heartbroken. Susan and her wonderful staff have been a godsend. They treated my wrist and me with amazing expertise (I don't think ANYONE knows more about the hand than Susan!), kindness, encouragement and understanding. It has not been an easy road and physical complications have made it longer than I wished for, but I am better- thanks to their tireless personal attention- and am looking forward to getting back to my clay again. Thank you Susan, Cindy, Andrea (and Alesia) for all you do, for being who you are and for giving me my hand (and my life) back! - Arline

I had an exceptional experience with Dr. Schiiro. She was the only form of treatment that worked to help get my Ulner's tunnel under control. She showed me how to better treat and prevent it during everyday life. She is kind, tough when she needs to be and very knowledgeable. You can't go wrong here.

After suffering through several months of shoulder pain, my primary care physician (appropriately conservative) suggested that I see a physical therapist, and recommended that I see Susan Schiliro (while Susan specializes in therapy for hand injuries, she handles shoulder injuries as well). In terms of recovery of range of motion and progressive freedom from pain, I can say that my treatments there largely did the job and did it well. After diagnosing a likely rotator cuff injury and objectively determining how much capacity I had lost, I was treated with a variety of pain reducing methods including neurostimulation, hot packs and laser treatments, among others. Of greater importance, perhaps, were the exercises that Susan prescribed for me. These involved stretching techniques, both with and without weights, using several techniques and running the gamut of shoulder positions. Over the course of visits, and depending on my progress, these exercises became more strenuous, generally (but carefully) increasing in difficulty with an eye towards recovering physical capabilities. After 12 sessions, almost all of the shoulder pain is gone and I've recovered most of my range of motion. The exercises (which use weights and stretching bands of varying stiffness) have become part of my regular routine. The staff is solicitous and efficient, from Jennifer at the front desk, to Andrea and to Susan herself, not to mention that everyone has a sense of humor and all are skilled at putting you at ease. I recommend them highly.

susan is an excellent therapist and so are the therapists that work with her. They helped me a great deal after surgery.I went to therapy for 4 months and I had very positive results. Susan made me a custom-made splint that was instrumental in my excellent recovery.

After my hand injury, I thought I would not have full functioning use of my hand again. I was treated by Dr. Schiliro and her staff with such kindness and compassion, which expedited my swift recovery. They educated me on the intricate workings of their treatment so that I was consciously aware of why I was performing each exercise. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to restore their hand(s) after a hand injury.

  • *****

I was in therapy with Dr. Schiliro for almost 5 months for a dislocated elbow. I had been to another therapist right after my injury and was not satisfied with the care I received. On the other hand, I was extremely satisfied with Dr. Schiliro. I received very personal and consistent care and attention. She pushed me to make improvements in my functionality and strength, but she was always careful not to push too hard. She was extremely knowledgeable and skilled. The office is small and the staff is more like a family than like an assembly line. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Schiliro for my recovery and for making a difficult experience pleasant. I recommend her without reservation.

It was recommended by my doctor, post broken knuckle, that I see a therapist to fully regain the use of that finger. I had fractured my ring finger middle knuckle.and had been casted middle to pinkie fingers for five weeks. I am now able to do all the things I was capable of doing prior to the fracture. I attended therapy for six weeks-two times weekly. Dr. Schiliro and her staff act very professional, friendly, caring and quite welcoming. I was extremely happy with my experience at Hand Therapy.
